SMHA Benefit Show May 8, 2011
Benefits Stephanie Hedlund, a fellow SMHA member, who had a riding accident last year (2010).
Stephanie Hedlund has been a fixture in the horse community since she was a small girl riding at Camp Letts with Lisa Swan. Stephanie spent a lot of barn time with her mom, her friend Melissa and her mom as they ran co-op barns to accommodate horse crazy little girls. She loved her ponies, and owned and rode The Buck Starts Here to the championship for English Hunter 4 Years & Under at SMHA .
Over the years, she continued to ride, competing at SMHA, and MSA. Last year, in late summer, Stephanie was schooling someone else's very green hunter horse when he unexpectedly spooked and went up and over, crushing Stephanie beneath him. The horse was fine....Stephanie sustained crush injuries to her pelvis and was rushed by helicopter to University Of Maryland's Shock Trauma unit, where surgeons assessed her injuries and pieced her together with pins, screws, and an external fixator for three months.
Miraculously Stephanie suffered no life threatening internal injuries. Early in December, three months after the accident, Stephanie took her first steps since the accident, and is looking forward to riding again in early March. She will be working the SMHA shows, and we would like to help defray her medical expenses for this equine related injury. Please come and show your support for us and for Stephanie!
We thank you!
